The purpose of this website is to share what I know with a focus (!) on new observers.
In addition to hauling out gear to my son's BSA Troop's astronomy events, I try to tailor some content specific to their needs and interests.
Here's (the public) photos from the first 2021 Astronomy Weekend earlier this year.
Learn: Sky and Learn: Observing are series of pages to prep beginners for haveing a great night under the stars.
BSA has an Astronomy Merit Badge. Here's some info to supplement their requirements: Scouting Astronomy Merit Badge
Setting up a couple of years ago at Agua Caliente - in the summer.

Note that January has "a Milky Way" - but it's the Winter Milky way. It will be visible, but whereas in the summer we're looking at the star band towards the dense center of the galaxy, in winter we're looking out. It's not quite as vibrant, but pointing a scope at it will show a rich starry background.
Gear check for the 2021 Astronomy Weekend (note: all but one of those scopes are gone - replaced with others).
