Mission Bay High School
Principal Fred Hilgers took ownership of their scope on
Wednesday, March 16, 2011. Mission Bay has big plans for the scope (see
below). Staff Training is next on the schedule. |
|
Mr. Hilgers summarizes:
Mission Bay High School is an International Baccalaureate school with a
STEM emphasis. All ninth graders take Earth Science and the very first unit
is on the solar system. The telescope will allow staff and students to
experience real time data. We will also be able to:
- provide a logical follow up to our annual Astronomy Day outreach
program
- provide a "wow factor" draw to science/astronomy when sitting in the
library
- join optical theory to first-hand visceral experience
- provides a foundation/anchor to new group activities including
equipment training and observing
The telescope will be housed in the library and can be utilized by Science
classes, Clubs or others wanting to teach about the aspects of Astronomy
Special thanks to Volaree Rendon and Janie Barrett of Bentley Systems
for designating their 2010 grant money to Mission Bay High School. |
